Need to replace or synchronize the VIN stored in a Ducati ECU? OBDSTAR MOTOMASTER STD provides a simple VIN writing function that allows technicians to modify the chassis number directly through the Special Functions menu.
This guide demonstrates the VIN writing procedure using [Demo Mode], making it easy to understand the workflow before working on an actual motorcycle.
Required Tool
OBDSTAR MOTOMASTER
1. Enter Demo Mode
Power on the MOTOMASTER device and select: Demo → Ducati → Diagnosis
2. Identify the Vehicle
Select [Auto Identify] and tap [Read].
The device will automatically identify the motorcycle model based on the ECU information.
Once the correct model is displayed, confirm by tapping [OK].
3. Scan the ECU
Select: [Auto Scan] → [Scan ECU]
When the scan is complete, enter the [Engine System].
Open [Version Information] to check the current ECU details, including the VIN stored inside the engine control module.
4. Enter VIN Writing Function
Return to the menu and select [Special Functions]
After accepting the disclaimer, choose: [VIN (Chassis No.) Writing]
The tool will compare the VIN stored in the ECU with the VIN information from other control modules.
If they do not match, you have two options:
- Manually edit the existing VIN by selecting [Change]
- Synchronize the VIN from other modules automatically
Choose the appropriate method according to your repair requirements.
5. Write the New VIN
After confirming the VIN information, tap [OK].
The MOTOMASTER will write the updated chassis number into the ECU.
Once the process is complete, the device will display a message confirming that the operation was successful.
The VIN stored in the ECU is now synchronized with the other vehicle modules.
6. Verify the Result
Exit the function and return to [Version Information]
Read the ECU information again to confirm that the new VIN has been written successfully.
The updated VIN should now match across all related modules.
