For the upcoming diesel MD1CS089 unlocking function, only ECU MASTER with HD license will support the operation. DC706 and X300 Classic G3 cannot unlock encrypted diesel ECUs.
For C4-06 connection, the basic kit is sufficient; the full kit is not required.

Q: Do I need to purchase an additional authorization for MG1/MD1 unlocking?
A: No.
If your OBDSTAR device is still within its active subscription period, the new unlocking function can be updated online at no additional charge. No separate authorization is required.
Q: Does the ECU need to be opened?
A: Yes.
The ECU needs to be opened, and the corresponding points must be soldered according to the wiring diagram. The unlocking operation is then performed in Boot Mode.

Q: After unlocking the ECU with OBDSTAR, can I use another ECU programmer to read or write it?
A: No.
After the OBDSTAR unlocking operation, the ECU can only be read and written using OBDSTAR equipment.
Once the operation is completed and you exit the procedure, the ECU will automatically return to its locked state.
Q: Does the new function support BMW ISN reading and modification?
A: Currently, it supports BMW ISN reading only.
ISN modification is still under development.

The wiring diagram will indicate the resistor that needs to be removed. The resistor is 0.1 Ω.
If the resistor is accidentally lost, the two corresponding points can be bridged according to the required procedure.

Q: Is the ECU data read from the locked ECU encrypted?
A: No.
The ECU data is read and saved as a non-encrypted BIN file, allowing the data to be used for supported ECU programming operations.
Q: What power supply is recommended for ECU unlocking?
A: A stable, regulated power supply is strongly recommended.
Recommended specifications:
Power: At least 60W
Voltage: 13–14V
If using OBDSTAR ECU MASTER, use the standard 60W power supply supplied with the device.
Important: An unstable power source can cause voltage fluctuations during the unlocking procedure. This may interrupt the operation and potentially damage the ECU.
Q: Is MG1/MD1 ECU unlocking difficult or risky?
A: Yes. ECU unlocking involves certain risks and requires appropriate technical knowledge and practical experience.
There are three main areas to pay attention to:
1. ECU Housing and PCB Risk
The ECU must be opened before the unlocking operation.
Improperly opening the housing may damage the ECU casing or the internal PCB.
2. Wiring and Power Supply Risk
A disconnected wire or unstable power supply during the unlocking process may cause the operation to fail and, in some cases, permanently damage the ECU.
For BMW B48/B58 ECUs, OBDSTAR recommends using the ECM-003 dedicated harness for a more stable connection.
3. Resistor Removal Risk
The procedure requires removing a very small 0.1 Ω resistor.
Because of its small size, incorrect soldering or handling may cause the component to be lost or damaged.
Recommendation: ECU unlocking should be performed by technicians with appropriate soldering skills and ECU programming experience. Always follow the wiring diagram and operating instructions provided by OBDSTAR.
